Elective Course Guide

 

At the Marshall School, we do not believe that technology development and e-business are specialized disciplines within business. Rather, they are fundamental to all business operations and are necessary tools for the growth and survival of the business enterprise. The development of innovative products, services, and business practices is at the heart of value creation in today's new economy. Technology development and e-business are the leading sources of growth in the world economy today. The Marshall School is located in the nexus of the most rapidly developing new technologies, including information and telecommunications technologies and bio-technologies.

The development and commercialization of new technologies and the management of technology intensive industries requires the type of general management skills that are emphasized in the Marshall School. For this reason, the Marshall School offers a concentration in technology development and e-business that transcends individual functional disciplines and academic departments. Faculty and courses from all functional disciplines have been brought together to offer students a thorough and balanced perspective and skill set related to technology development and e-business. The various course offerings related to this concentration are listed below:

Business-to-Business E-Business

Description of careers for which concentration prepares students:
This concentration would be appropriate for students interested in careers involving the use of eCommerce in business-to-business environments. Such careers may include marketing, information systems, and account management positions within organizations that offer products and services to other organizations.

eCommerce and Supply Chain Management

Description of careers for which concentration prepares students:
This concentration would be appropriate for students interested in careers involving the use of eCommerce in the management of supply chains. Such careers may include positions in operations management, logistics, purchasing, information systems and related functions within any of a variety of types of organizations.

Description of careers for which concentration prepares students:
This concentration would be appropriate for students interested in careers involving the use of eCommerce in business-to-consumer environments. Such careers may include marketing, account management, retailing, and information systems positions within organizations that offer products and services to consumers.

Description of careers for which concentration prepares students:
This concentration would be appropriate for students interested in careers involving consulting, related to eBusinesses, high technology, or the use of information technology within a business environment.

Technology Development and Entrepreneurial E-Business

Description of careers for which concentration prepares students:
This concentration would be appropriate for students interested in careers involving the development of new businesses based on the use of new technologies and/or e-Business. This track would also be appropriate for students interested in careers related to the commercialization of technology, including work in venture capital and product development.
