Successful managers in today’s business world must be able to approach issues with a global mindset. The Transfer International Experience (TIE) program, a course for upper-level students who have transferred into Marshall or Leventhal from other institutions, focuses on developing a global mindset through hands-on experiential learning. TIE provides a first-hand perspective on how globalization affects companies and industries and helps students develop skills needed to succeed in business transactions across borders. The TIE course will help prepare upper-level students for managerial roles in businesses of the future. The centerpiece of this course is a week-long experiential learning trip to Vilnius, Lithuania after the Spring Semester ends. In addition to the experiential education during the international field study trip, the course will consist of a set of class sessions before the trip.

Program Details

Students admitted to the program will enroll in a 2-unit course, BUAD 206, during the Spring 2025 semester.  The class will explore global business issues and problems and will include presentations from international managers, politicians, and business leaders. 

 During class sessions, students will:

• learn how the business context of a country impacts business practices, business functions, and industries
• develop an understanding of how culture affects doing business in a country
• learn about the ways in which businesses can be responsible global citizens and the opportunities for social entrepreneurship in global business
• develop a deeper appreciation of career options in various functional areas and industries, in both domestic and international contexts.

Program Costs

The cost of the travel portion of the program will be $3850 and will cover the following:

Airfare

Ground Transportation

Hotel

Some Meals

Program prices do NOT include: visa application costs, evening meals, international insurance, incidentals, personal expenses, and residence hall extensions (May trips only).

Additional funds will be available in the form of need-based scholarships for those students who require additional financial support

Please note: For safety, students MUST arrive and depart with the group. Students may NOT plan their own schedules to and from the destination. 

Application 

The application for the 2025 TIE program is due by September 29th,2024. Admission is NOT on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to take your time in completing the application. 

Application Requirements

	QUALIFICATION Students must be external transfer students (you must have attended another college/university for at least a year prior to arrival at USC to be considered a transfer student.)
You must submit an application and the following supporting materials online:
	ESSAYS You will be asked to answer 2 essays: Why do you believe you are prepared to participate in this program? (500 words max.) What challenges do you expect to encounter during your time overseas? (500 words max.)
	SCHOLARSHIP If you are applying for a Scholarship, you will need the following: A copy of your Financial Aid Statement (for those who receive need-based financial aid and not simply a merit scholarship) A print-out from Oasis/MyUSC is sufficient OR a Letter of Financial Need (see 'Scholarship' section for what is required to be included in the letter) For more information about scholarships, please click here.
	PASSPORT If you do not have a passport or your passport is not valid through the end of November 2025, you need to apply for a new passport or renew your passport as soon as possible.
	RESUME An electronic copy of your resume (which you will upload as a PDF document). Please make sure your resume is UPDATED to include USC (under education) and not more than 1 page in length.
