The Marshall Behavioral Research Lab hires USC undergraduate and master's students as research and teaching assistants for faculty and PhD students across the Marshall School of Business. It's a chance to work on real research, build technical skills, and see how academic studies are run.
What you'll do
Research: running in-person and online studies, programming surveys, collecting and analyzing data, qualitative research, and literature reviews.
Courses: grading and feedback, exam proctoring, preparing course materials, and holding office hours.
Depending on the project, you may also work with eye tracking, psychophysiology, video coding, and other lab technology.
The details
- Pay: $20/hour for undergraduates and $25/hour for master's students.
- Hours: up to 20 hours per week, scheduled around your classes.
- Location: in person, remote, or hybrid, depending on the project. Remote work requires being physically located in the United States.
- Training: every assistant completes CITI research ethics training and signs the lab's confidentiality policies. The lab handles hiring paperwork, payroll, and weekly check-ins.
How to apply
The application has six sections. Have this information ready:

- Any USC work experience, especially in research or teaching assistant roles
- Your availability and preferred work arrangement (in person, remote, or hybrid)
- Research and technical skills, including statistical software and programming languages

All fields are required unless marked optional. You can save your progress and come back later, but incomplete applications are deleted after one week of inactivity. We keep applications on file until the end of the academic year.
How we select
Applications are scored with a rubric, followed by interviews and reference checks. Hiring is competitive: for Fall 2026, 8 of 131 applicants were hired.
Please note
The application is your only point of contact with Marshall researchers. Please don't email faculty or PhD students directly about positions; it creates duplicate applications. If you have trouble with the form or have questions, email behaviorallab@marshall.usc.edu.
