I arrived in Prague a few weeks ago and honestly I did not expect Prague to be this beautiful. The architecture is absolutely amazing here, definitely not something that you would normally see in the U.S.! So many of the buildings have these sculptures on them and honestly everything is so breathtaking here! Our building where we are staying really feels like a castle and the rooms are so spacious here!
In our first week here, we went on a tour of Prague and learned more about the area we are staying in, how to use the public transportation system, and also got to see the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, the John Lennon Memorial, and the Prague Castle. The Prague Castle was amazing and we saw so many people taking their wedding photos there! It was a little hot, but not nearly as bad as back in Los Angeles! After the tour, we ate at this beautiful restaurant and had traditional czech food. I really enjoyed the fried cheese (Smažený Sýr) the most of all the food I have had here so far! Later we wandered around Prague and went to see the Národní Muzeum (National Museum), which was amazing! It doesn’t get dark until 10pm here, so we had a lot of time to do things with our day!
As for food, I have been eating out a lot and trying a lot of food around here. We went to this pasta place called Pasta Fresca which was honestly one of the best pasta places I have ever been to! I have been missing home just a little bit, so I went to a chinese food restaurant and a pho restaurant near our dorm. There is a large North Vietnamese Community here in Prague from after the Vietnam War, which I thought was really interesting!
Our internships started the second week of the program. I am interning at a finance company called Clearstream Operations where I will be working on their databases and SAP system! While it is a smaller company than back in the United States, it is one of the bigger companies here in Prague (about 30 people). It is really interesting and I am learning a lot at my internship!
The second weekend we were here, we decided to take a last minute trip to Munich (literally booked our tickets at 7pm and FlixBus left at 9:30pm)! Since we only work Monday-Thursday, we were able to spend 3 days there, which was absolutely amazing! We slept on the bus and arrived there early in the morning. While there we visited the Nymphenburg Palace, Schloss Neuschwanstein Palace (the Sleeping Beauty Castle was inspired by it), Marienplatz, and the BMW Museum (absolutely my favorite!). We stayed in a hostel close to the city center. Little tip, if you go to Germany definitely get a doner!
I am really enjoying my time here in Europe and being able to get international work experience while also learning more about the culture here in Europe. I can see that this trip is really getting off to an amazing start!
